To complete a production-ready
tool the semi-finished castings require parting lines to be matched, surfaces
prepared, frames and clamps fitting and special insert holders etc. to
be fitted.
To achieve precise
parting lines we stress relieve the aluminium shells before matching together.
The moulding surfaces
will be prepared according to customers' specifications. Common surface
treatments ranging from sandblasting and/or shotpeening for which we have
set up dedicated blasting chambers, to grinding and polishing to various
grit levels.
In addition we offer
a number of surface coating options - such as PTFE or our own Black-Maus-Coatings.
Typically a mounting
frame is fitted to all mould halves. Fabricated from steel tube the frame
is fixed directly to "mounting posts" which are part of the
casting - thus providing extra strength and protecting the mould shells.
Clamps for keeping the mould closed are applied directly to the mounting
frame - providing an equal distribution of the clamping forces to the
flanges.
For many moulds there
will also be thread inserts retainers or holding magnets applied.
